  • in tank sending unit

Can anyone tell me what the resistances should be for the in tank sending unit? I misplaced my haynes manual the other day. I checked it last night and at full tank it reads around 3.4-5ohms, then it will slowly raise to 17ohms at 3/4 tank, and nothing after that, its totally dead 0 ohms anything less than 3/4 tank. I'm wondering what the range is supposed to be on this before I go buy a new one.

Mine was definitley bad, I read in the haynes manual myself the same thing that f3bz posted, 6-95 ohms. The one that came out of my car did as I stated above, the junk yard sending unit went up to 111.x ohms. I suppose the haynes manual failed us again or maybe its aspire sending units that only read up to 95 ohms...either way I know mine jumped to 111+ at full tank and the pointer is pointing directly at the right aide of the full mark.

It's weird, my new one may still be bad, ill find out with this tank of gas, but the sending unit will read the voltage up and down and occasionally for no good reason it drops off to 0 for a split second. Maybe its supposed to be like that...or maybe its just old and getting worn out? My local parts store couldn't find a new one at all, they're not even included with the fuel pump housing, so I don't know what the deal is when ever need a new one. I wonder if one from an aspire/tracer/323/escort/protege/... Would work?
