  • My vacation project

Believe it or not I finally got to take one week of my accumulated four weeks vaction off next week. So Im going to try and do a little wrenching . A week isnt enough time for the Fanastiva build but I have a couple of 89 L plus(s) that have been taking up space in the back of the garage you several years now. My plan is to combine the two into one daily driver. They both are auto so I may change over to a five speed , or not, havent decided yet. Jerry ( car one ) I got for $100 about four years ago. Ive driven it but it heated up. Probably bad head. Booger ( car two ) which I bought from a FFC member three or four years ago for $100 has registration issues but newer motor and tranny. Ive driven booger and it runs and shifts perfect. The plan is to switch motor/trannies and to make Jerry viable transportation. Hate to part out Booger but I need the garage space. Ill update with progress and pics . First issue is clearing out the shop enough to arrange the cars nose to nose under the chain hoist which will require some major rearranging of festivas and festiva parts.

Jerry: decent body, working factory air conditioning, hideous graphic ( taking removal suggestions )

Booger: dings and dents, a/c, remanufactured motor.

I'll remove Jerry completely from your garage, that Marcus would be the easiest way to remove those graphics!

Okay garage emptied and cars in position. Wasnt easy, the front disc pads were siezed to the rotors on booger and the rear brake shoes were siezed to the drums on jerry, neither car would budge. Amazing since the cars have been inside since Ive owned them. Spent an hour just freeing up the brakes so they would move. PB blaster generously appied to everything.

Some spare B3s I had to pull out to move the cars around

I can tell this project will have a happy outcome

                  1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
                  1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Get a 3M Eraser wheel to put in your 3/8 drill. They look just those big tan pure gum rubber pencil erasers you use for art class. They're solid gum rubber - about 4" diameter & 1/2" thick. They are the best I have found for removing stripes & graphics. They'll remove the stripes AND the left over adhesive. I did both sides of my F250 which was covered in advertisements in 1 afternoon. You could take those Festiva stripes off in about 20min per side. Follow up with some "goo-gone" and a shop towel and you're done! Here's a link, just so you know what it looks like. I got mine at a local Auto Body Supply house for like $30.

Day end pics, spend some vacation time between wrenches.

I pulled the motor oil plug today and it ran pure antifreeze for a couple of seconds before it ran oil.
Antifreeze must be heavier than oil. Some oil in the antifreeze as well.

Dont ask about the other LCA , #@!*&%^&$#
