  • My first engine swap build thread

Starting on my first engine swap today. Going to attempt a b6 SOHC. Thought Id start a thead to show progress on. Im also swapping from an auto tranny to manual and adding an aspire brake/torsion beam swap. May be slow going as I only got two days off last month from work. Ive got a two day weekend this week though so Im getting started. The $100 project car below, 1993 GL with factory air. The previous owners father caught it on fire changing a fuel filter but the body and interior is in good shape so Im doing this to save festiva from fading away in a pasture.

    The motor

Ive already put a new wire harness in it and started working on the interior. See thread below for that progress.

Wish me luck !!! Future FOTM nominee ??

I am planning on doing a swap from carbed to EFI on Silver Bullet. I am planning on utilizing the harness and engine out of the 95 Aspire I've got that I was going to use for the brake/suspension swap. I'll have to wait until after the spring semester is over though.

I have also been thinking about a different top secret swap for Silver Bullet instead and I have the connections to get what I need. However, I do not want to say what exactly yet. :silent:

Autos are much heavier. It does have a nice like new set of halfshafts on it. They look brand new. Ill get a pic up later. If they are different than manual shafts they will be for sale. Boots are perfect and still suble, absolutely no cracking at all.

Hey Marcus, I have the old battery out of the EGT... I put a new one in because it seemed slow to crank but the new battery didn't help anything. I guess that's just how it is.

Anyways, you can come get it if you want it! It's some Interstate battery...

                              ^ Alright a convert.

Time for a little lunch. My nephew who was going to come help me never showed. So Im working solo. Good progress so far. Didnt have to break the factory air system or remove the cross member. Now to clean up the engine bay and add water pump, timing, manual tranny, new clutch set, etc. to the motor before installing. Going to have to order some steering rack boots from FMS, these are shot.
