  • Wire harness swap complete

Got my wire swap project done today, piece of cake……. NOT !!

The previous owner caught the car on fire and attempted to repair the damage by cutting a section of wire harness out of another festiva and splicing it into the fire damaged car. Thus messing up two festivas. Looking at his splicing job ( second picture ) Im sure a second fire was in his future.

    Before:

    Old harness out :

New harness in. Im pulling the motor too so not everything is hooked up permanent. Esp. on the firewall where I want to try and repair the fire damage to the paint while the motor in out. Got some straightening and wire tying to do but its all back in. Probably test it before closing it back up too. Going to add the clock wiring now as well. Note added clutch pedal. Switching to five speed while the motor is out.

Old harness right, new harness left, saved the factory air .

I did something similar to Uncle Fester about 2 months ago. Wiring harness swap from carb to EFI. Took about 3-4 hours.

I took the FI harness off of one in a JY and gave up shortly there after. Took too long and it was raining. I'll go back one day.

Hey Jim, I ended up with one wire left over. Its around the driverside head light. Its green with a red tracer. Its a single wire and just like the single horn wire on the opposite side. Any clue ? Did the festivas with dual horns have the horns togather or on opposite sides ?

opposite sides; It's a horn wire for the low note horn.

^Not to mention I'm old, blind, and not too smart. Cool on the horn wire, I might have to find a second one to mount. Thanks !

I've got a ground short in a wire to the block on my '01 Eclipse when I turn the starter over. It's smoking a ground wire and I've peeled it back all the way to the firewall. Now I have to pull the dash so that I can trace it and/or repair the remainder of the G wire.

Reading this just makes me dread it even more. I'm enjoying paint and body and dreading the mechanical side more and more the older I get!!

Nope, I pulling the motor and tranny too. Switching to a five speed and maybe an aspire brake swap. Not in any hurry with it. Will work on it as time allows. Have to do back to work next week.

Thanks Kid ! It was kind of a pain. It would be easier for two people esp when going through the firewall. I must have gone back and forth a dozen times pushing then pulling. Something was always getting hung up. I hope none of my hood release cables ever break. Id hate to have to replace one of those. It would be kind of like fixing your front windshield washer pump.
