  • Added a muffler to my exhaust, with vid

Well I'd been running the 2 1/8" straight pipe (it had a high flow SS cat, but that's it) for a few months, ended up getting a ticket for "improper exhaust), and while I liked the simplicity and cost of not having a muffler the noise was getting a bit annoying, mostly on long trips. So I broke down, bought a glass pack, borrowed a friends welder and stuck it in line. When he lent me the welder it had some really crappy wire that kept jamming, so I had to run and get some better wire and it went smoothly after that. BUT, I had already taken my exhaust off, so I was running with just a down pipe for a day.... it was really loud inside the car b/c it ended about under the shifter. I took a vid of it like that, and then after I put the muffler in. I had meant to take a vid with the exhaust I had been running for the past few months, but forgot.

    New exhaust vs stock exhaust:

    After:

Its a TON quieter with the muffler, even though the vid makes it still sound sorta loud. I'm happy with it; I don't have to worry about cops any more and it should make longer drives more pleasant. This exhaust is too big for a B3, its OK for a PnP'd B6, but will be great for when I get a turbo on it. Total cost of the exhaust, header back, including muffler and cat, is still only around $100.

haha, thanks... I'm far from a great welder... about the only real thing I've done much welding of is the festy exhaust. That close up is, of course, my last weld and also consequently the best looking, even if its not great. I'd love to take a welding class somewhere and learn more than just what I've taught myself, but as long as it sticks together I'm happy!

          Damn, your car is nice.

I'm going to have to change my exhaust manifold. Only part that is left stock is the manifold & the downpipe.

yea my manifold is still the stock B6 one (which isn't all that bad in the way of manifolds)...

not for long though, I'm working on designing a custom manifold for use w/ my T25... then we be having fun

Very nice Skeeter! I'm loving the sound of the new exhaust. It's much more pleasant sounding but still sporty.

Yeah I like it,m and once you have a turbo on there it will actually quiet it down a good deal.
