The role of car designers is truely a multifaceted one. In addition to their more recognizable skills, you will find them working together with other department personnel such as engineers, clay modellers, market researchers, etc.

Typical prospects for this type of job will be under 30 years old, college educated, having either a bachelor's or masters degree in transportation or industrial design, artistic talent, familiar with computer graphics, completed related courses in art drawing, model making, team skills, and extremely motivated (competition is fierce for what positions are available as not every car manufacturer hires new designers every year). And don't count out having someone "in house" putting in a good word or two. General perception is that car designers have the ultimate job...and this may be true as I'm sure it is rewarding to see "your" vehicle become successful and..well..famous. But, by the same...there are plenty of misses too. To sum up, it is stressful and rewarding for the better part of working designers.
