Sleeper Festiva of the Month

"Zippy" Mamabear's  BP Powered '92 Festiva GL

"Zippy" was named and restored by Chuck Locker Jr. from Oklahoma he also did the BP engine swap. Here is a link to the build page I bought this car for Mamabear (My wife Inga) in September of 2004. I have bought other Festivas for her, but she wouldn't drive a stick. And since I can't stand to drive an Auto Festiva because of it's lack of power, I couldn't resist. I towed it back and it sat in the garage for almost a year and a half because I couldn't get it registered in Texas. Well I finally got it done, and it's been babied ever since. Well, unless I drive it. ;-)

Under the hood sits a 1.8 DOHC BP engine form a '91 Escort GT. Over double the HP of the stock Festiva SOHC 1.3 engine. Mated to an automatic transmission, it has more than a little pep. Zippy is a highway cruiser. It won't hesitate to hit 100 mph. But with the stock suspension it wasn't real surefooted at those speeds. So I started to improve it. FMS sport springs and KYB Supers all around. Swapped the hood for a custom FMS hood I modified and added Konig Reign 13" Wheels and Falken ZIEX 512. I Then replaced all bushings and the control arms. The filter was replaced with a cone style and I added smoke headlight covers. I later added a GL Sport hatch spoiler, 90 LX Power Mirrors, Mazda 121 Clock, Intermittent wipers, Euro taillights, FMS Strut tower bar, Grant Steering wheel, JVC stereo system. I replaced the crappy stock exhaust with a new 2" pipe and installed a Flowmaster muffler. It has a nice low inconspicuous tone. These are photos before the mirrors and hood were added.

Posing with Techno.. (My Festiva)

Well, one thing led to another and Mamabear decided that it rode too rough for her with the lowering springs, the hood and light covers had to go as well. Here is what it looks like today.. (Just finished taking some new photos)

I know, the engine bay is dirty again.. Also time for a new VC gasket.

And let's not forget about Zippy's hitchhiker PeeWee.
